Uganda Birding Safari Adventure, During this 10 Days you get to discover why Uganda is called a birders paradise. The itinerary is made with the Twitcher in mind and birding is the main focus. A Ikiya Primate safari guide specialized in birding takes you along to birding spots and IBA’s as well as shows you the animals of the savanna. We supply a birding checklist to keep track of what you have seen.

10 Days Uganda Birding Safari Adventure Details
Day 1: Arrival for our twitcher’s bird watching and wildlife safari
You will be met at Entebbe International airport and taken to the hotel. There will be a detailed briefing about this 10 days Uganda birding safari. Depending on the time of arrival, we may start our safari with bird watching around Lake Victoria shores already this day.

Day 2: Transfer to Lake Mburo NP via Mabamba Swamp for the Shoebill Stork
As we transfer to Lake Mburo National Park we visit Mabamba Village and its adjacent swamp taking us through African rural areas as we start the 10 days Uganda birding safari. The road to Mabamba winds its way through areas of secondary forest and agricultural land attracting Red-headed Lovebird, African Crowned-Hornbills, and a range of sunbirds including the Green-headed, Green, Red-chested, Collared, Marico and Scarlet-chested, the African pied Wagtail is common along the road. We head out on the swamp in a small boat to search for the pre-historic looking Great Shoebill Stork. Afther the search we continue on to the lodge by Lake Mburo NP.

Day 3: Birding on Lake Mburo and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After an early morning breakfast we shall check out and proceed for a boat ride on Lake Mburo where this African Safari park derives its name. On the boat we expect to see the African Darter, White Backed Night Heron, African Finfoot, African Fish Eagle, Malachite, Pied and Giant Kingfishers, Hippos, Crocs and others after which we begin our drive to the renowned Queen Elizabeth National Park, bird watching enroute. This Uganda’s second largest safari park contains Africa’s best game populations as well as some of Uganda’s biggest birding list, an incredible bird list of 611 species!

Day 4: Early Morning Birding Safari and Game Viewing in Queen Elizabeth NP

Day 5: Birding to Maramagambo Forest.
This morning as we continue the 10 days Uganda birding safari, we shall bird to Maramagambo Forest following the main trail. We shall visit the Blue Lake and Bat Cave where we expect to see African Rock Python that found refuge in the Cave, and feasts on the Bats for breakfast, lunch and supper! Special birds of this Forest include Narina Trogon, Rufous Flycatcher Thrush; White tailed Ant-thrush, Black Bee-eater, Grey-headed Kingfisher and White-breasted Negrofinch. If need be we will visit the spectacular Kyambura Gorge.

Day 6 Transfer from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Semuliki National Park Day
6 begins with a scenic transfer from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Semuliki National Park, located within the lush Congo Basin. Upon arrival, check in at Semuliki Safari Lodge and enjoy a relaxing lunch surrounded by tropical forest views. In the evening, embark on a guided birding excursion in the savanna and forest edges, where you can spot unique species including nightjars, owls, and other rare birds.
Day 7 offers a full-day birding adventure
Day 7 offers a full-day birding adventure in Semuliki’s rich lowland rainforest, famous for its endemic Congo Basin bird species. With an expert guide and packed lunch, explore diverse habitats in search of sought-after species, making this a must-do experience for birdwatching enthusiasts visiting Uganda.
Day 8 & 9: Bird Watching to Kibale Forest National Park
This day of the 10 days Uganda birding safari we shall have a chance of birding the main road or one of the trails in the forest. We might come across the African Emerald Cuckoo, Purple-headed Starling, Black-billed Turaco, Yellow-billed Barbet, Grey-throated Barbet, Blue-throated Roller, Narrow-tailed Starling, Western Black-headed Oriole, Yellow-throated and Yellow-rumped Tinkerbirds.
Overnight Isunga Lodge
Day 10: Transfer to Entebbe and Flight
Travel towards Entebbe as we pay respect to roadside raptors and colony of Veillots black weavers at the end of this 10 days Uganda birding safari. Depending on flight time head straight to Entebbe for the airport. (If flight is next day you can add a night in Entebbe).
